The 1775 Silbermann Clavichord Project

In the summer of 2024, I was playing some repertoire on my 1953 Sperrhake clavichord. I realized that  the piece I was playing was not being served well on this instrument. The single stringing was the main problem. The piece I was playing was C.Ph.E. Bachs Abschied von meinen Silbermannischen Claviere in einem Rondo, H. 272 (Farewell to my Silbermann clavichord). That's when I decided to build a Silbermann clavichord! It's a big job to build such a thing from scratch but I obtained the technical drawings from the Nuremburg National Museum in Germany for the 1775 Silbermann (this builder was the son of the man who built C.Ph. Bachs instrument) and began building in earnest. I'm looking forward to playing the same piece on the new instrument.

A Fall Trip

It was such a pleasure for my wife and I to revisit Sault Ste. Marie "the Soo". The Agawa Canyon, Pancake Bay, Chippewa Falls, the family "camps", the Rapids (for which the Soo gets its name) and so many other places as well as family, made the trip special. I never get tired and am always inspired by a trip to the place of my birth!

Liszt's Liebestraum N. 3 in A Flat Major

I first was introduced to this piece as a child. I played a simplified version then. Now I felt that it was time to learn the concert version so I did...over the summer and fall...it's more difficult than it sounds.

A very special gig...I had the distinct pleasure of playing for the cocktail hour before the final ICFF dinner honouring Anna Fendi (Fashion Icon) at the Ritz-Carlton in Toronto. I also attended the dinner (with Raffi). Ms. Fendi was wonderfully poised and articulate at the tender age of 90!
